Our operation spans 1,300 hectares and uses two mining methods.

Conventional hard rock iron mining often requires initial blasting and then several stages of highly energy intensive crushing to reduce material to a small grain size that can be processed. The Taharoa deposit is made up of ironsand, which has already been ground down to this ideal size by natural processes.

The operation represents one of the world's most advanced slurry-based iron mining operations

Taharoa's specialised processing plants incorporate advanced gravity and magnetic separation technology, enabling efficient recovery of a resource that would otherwise be inaccessible.

No energy intensive blasting or crushing processes required

Both mining methods convert ironsand into slurry before it passes through magnetic and spiral separation systems that concentrate the titanomagnetite ore.

We can efficiently move thousands of tons of material by slurrying and pumping it through a system of pipes, removing the need for truck or rail transportation which is typically used in iron ore transportation.

Process water is treated and recirculated throughout the operation.

Our processing plants combine advanced gravity and magnetic separation technology to recover a resource that would otherwise be inaccessible. The operation produces millions of tonnes of ironsand each year, with accessible reserves sufficient to support production well into the future.
